Properties: Its aqueous solution is water white fuming liquid with relative density of 1.32 and boiling point at 108.5°C, pungent smell and easy volatilization. It is soluble in water and able to disinfect. There is no anhydrous fluosilicic acid product with the maximum concentration of 60.92%, it is the most stable at 13.3% in constitution and does not decompose in distillation. It can corrode glass, ceramics, lead and other metals, have stronger corrosion to skin and harms to respiratory organs of humans.
Applications: A basic material for preparing sodium fluosilicate, potassium fluosilicate, ammonium fluosilicate, magnesium fluosilicate, copper fluosilicate, barium fluosilicate, other fluosilicates and silicon tetrafluoride, widely used for metal plating, wood preservation, beer sterilization, disinfection for brewing equipment (1-2% H2SiF6) and refined electrolysis of lead, or as mordant and metal surface treating agent.
